In writing this year, we will be following the Writer's Workshop model. This framework provides writers with opportunities to write pieces at their interest level, while they practice explicit writing strategies. The ultimate goal of Writer's Workshop is to develop independent, passionate, life-long writers!
For our first semester, we will focus on NARRATIVE Craft. During this unit, students will: - Generate personal narratives - Move through the writing process: rehearsing, drafting, revising, and editing - Learn from mentor texts
As we transition through first semester to second semester, we will focus on RESEARCH reports. During this unit, students will:
-Write quick drafts connected to the social studies curriculum -Write focused research reports that teach and engage readers
For our second semester, we will focus on research-based ARGUMENT essay and memoirs. During these units, students will:
-Establish and support positions -Build powerful arguments -Write for real-life purposes and audiences -Generate ideas about our lives and find depth in the moments we choose -Structure, draft, and revise
